 Claiming Land

With a bellow of announcement, the form of a dragon settled to the ground, her taloned paws sinking to the earth and anchoring her while her wing-tips battered the air for balance. Her feet gained, and her balance caught, she lowered her forelimbs to the ground, wings folding and turning the apendigages into makeshift arms. The scales along her body that fell between her black spine and the creamy tones of her belly and neck swirled a curious green, her amber eyes slowly inspecting the area in which she had landed. From her back came a soft trill, a question from the young biull she carried with her. ~Are we home yet Mother?~ His mind-speaking voice was young as well, high-pitched and curious, eager. She swung her head around to look at the wyrmling perched between her wings and rumbled a soft agreement. ~Yes dearheart, we are home.~ Her own voice was a softer one, aged and calm. She stretched her neck to lift the young one in her maw gently, placig him on the ground and watching him stumble about. They'd flown for some time, and he needed to regain his feet. With a happy chirrup, the youth flapped his own winged forelimbs happily, mimicking his dam when she prepared for take-off. This would make a good home, and she sensed no other dragon laying claim to it. A depp breathe was sucked into her lungs, and was expelled in a powerful, resonant roar that echoed over every inch of what she was claiming. Mine, the roar said, I claim this, and it is mine alone!. Her voice held out for what seemed ages to the young bull who watched, and he added his own roar, weak though it may be, to his dam's. His wasn't audible over the dragoness, but he felt better, knowing he too lay claim on this land as an heir to it.
